"Sharing"

Hi Godly Play friends,

Today, Ms. Candace tells us a story about sharing.

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”  Hebrews 13:16

Ms. Candace tells us in the story that there were 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish to feed many people.  It did not seem possible.

When it was time to eat, Jesus told the disciples to bring him the loaves and fish and to tell everyone to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the loaves and fish and looked up to heaven and gave thanks. He then gave the food to the disciples to give to the people.

If I were to share my snack with you today, there might be enough for you to have one tiny bite. But when Jesus blessed the loaves and fish, the Bible says that everyone ate until they were full!

Wait! That's not all! After they had eaten until they were full, they gathered up the leftovers and there were twelve baskets full. Can you imagine taking my little snack and feeding even more people and still having food left over? We couldn't do it, but God could.

What can we learn from this Bible lesson today? We learn that when we give what we have to God, he can take it, bless it, and do more than we could ever imagine.

Ms. Candace shared that it is better to give than to receive.  This makes God happy and this will make you feel good too.  Even though we may not have very much, little becomes much when it is placed in God's hands.

Just as Jesus used the lunch of a small boy to feed more than five thousand people, we pray that you will remember the power of Jesus and how sharing makes you feel.  When you give to others, you bless them and their happiness blesses you in return.  God is pleased.  We know you will bless everyone you meet each day.

Suggested activity:

Make a calendar for the month of May.   Draw a picture on each day of how you shared with others.  It could be a picture of a toy, a book, a smile, a compliment, a chore you do for your parents or grandparents, getting the newspaper, setting the table, walking the dog, cleaning your room or making your bed.  Share your calendar with a friend or your parents and grandparents.  We think you will feel the blessings come back to you because you blessed others.  And that pleases God.

Thank you for your support of Godly Play,

Ms. Candace, Ms. Kim and Ms. Janet
